That Performance Place is a hands-on arts school that proceeds from the belief that creativity and expression should be celebrated and shared with the world! That Performance Place is dedicated to providing a safe, fun and educational place for students of all ages to develop their creativity and talents, as well as to explore many new potential hobbies. This school bases its curriculum around the idea that students learn better by being hands on. For the music, theater and dance programs this includes having performances every few months to develop the student’s showmanship and boost their confidence.
That Performance Place was founded in 2016 by mother-daughter duo, Carol and Melissa Forsythe. After searching for several months to find the perfect location for their dream school, they happened upon Elkton, Maryland, where a piece of property (formerly the Brantwood Golf Course) caught their eye. This piece of property had everything, a gorgeous building capable of filling all needs necessary for an arts program, a huge chunk of land perfect for starting agriculture programs and planning activities for people of all ages, and a parking lot big enough to fit all of their potential guests. Much work was put into the building and the property over a period of about 8 months to get it ready to begin the arts programs and it is ready to go!
Music Director, Eric Svalgard, has had extensive experience with running a music school. He opened the Downingtown School of Rock in 2004 and then proceeded to found the Wilmington School of Rock in 2006, which he operated for ten years before closing doors to begin this new and exciting project in Elkton. The staff of That Performance Place looks forward to meeting new friends and working together to create productions with our students for the community to enjoy!
