National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Name: National Prescription Drug Take Back DayDate: October 28, 2017Website: http://www.cecilcountyhealth.orgEvent Description:National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m., at which time Cecil County residents can turn in unused or expired medications — no questions asked — for safe disposal at several locations.
An initiative of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Medicine that sits unused in home cabinets is susceptible to misuse, abuse and other serious health risks. At-home methods for disposal of unused medicines — flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash — pose potential safety and health hazards.
The collection of prescription medication at Elkton High School is in conjunction with Restore Church’s annual Trunk-or-Treat event and a health fair. Local, state and federal officials, including representatives from the Office of National Drug Control Policy, will be onsite to promote the importance of the Prescription Drug Take Back initiative. Cecil County residents are encouraged to dispose of their unused and expired medications, learn about substance use prevention, local resources and services, and join in the family friendly fun.
Cecil County residents can also dispose of medicine anytime at several medicine drop boxes, with no questions asked. Drop box locations are listed at www.rewriteyourscript.org, under the tab “RX Drop Boxes.” For more information about medicine disposal, Cecil County residents should call Jackie Hartman, Cecil County Health Department, at 410-996-5106.Location:- Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, 107 Chesapeake Blvd., Suite 112, Elkton;
